Olivia Wilde Slams ‘Horses–t Idea’ She Left Jason Sudeikis for Harry Styles
Booksmart director Olivia Wilde has spoken out about the timing of her and Harry Styles’ style on-set romance, Us Magazine reported.
“The idea that I abandoned Jason [Sudeikis] for Harry is entirely false,” Wilde, 38, told Vanity Fair in an interview published on Thursday, September 8. “Our relationship had ended before I met Harry.” It doesn’t end overnight, like any other relationship. Unfortunately, Jason and I had a rocky ride, and we finally ended our relationship near the start of the epidemic.”
Olivia and Jason, 46, began dating in 2011 and were engaged nearly two years later. The couple, who have two children – Otis, 8, and a daughter, Daisy, 5 – announced their divorce in November 2020.
“We were parenting two kids under lockdown, so we co-parented,” Wilde explained to the magazine. “Once it became evident that cohabiting was no longer advantageous to the children, it became the responsible thing to not do, because as friends who live in different places, we could be better parents.”
Wilde later moved on with the 28-year-old “Sweet Creature” crooner after meeting on the set of Don’t Worry Darling, which Wilde directed.
“I still have that scrap of notebook paper on which I jotted down my top three thoughts.” “Harry was the first one, and it was circled a lot of times,” the O.C. alum said of her interest in casting Styles after Shia LaBeouf quit the film, according to Vanity Fair. “Then, on another day, I’d put something like, ‘Unavailable.'” Damn! ‘On the road.’”
Wilde previously told Variety that she sacked the Even Stevens alum, 36, after a disagreement with the film’s lead actress, Florence Pugh. LaBeouf, on the other hand, refuted the reports, claiming that he did not have enough time to prepare before production began. After his schedule was disrupted due to the coronavirus outbreak, the former One Direction singer was eventually recruited to take over the role of Jack.
“My issue with Harry was that I knew he was courageous,” Wilde exclaimed in an interview on Thursday. “I’d rather work with a courageous non-actor than a trained actor who is full of hang-ups, baggage, and judgment.”
“What I love about working with singers and dancers is that they give 100 percent because, as a dancer, if you don’t commit 100 percent, you get harmed,” she explained. It’s the same with singers. If they only sing at 30%, the song will not function. I believe performers sometimes believe they can get away with 30%.:”
As Wilde’s private romance with the Dunkirk actor intensified, her co-parenting relationship with Sudeikis came to a halt. Wilde was slapped with custody papers earlier this year, while she was giving a panel on Don’t Worry, Darling at CinemaCon. While a source told Us at the time that Sudeikis filed court filings to “establish jurisdiction” over the exes’ two children, Sudeikis had no idea when they would be delivered.
“He would never condone her being served in such an unethical manner,” a source told the publication in April.
According to Variety, the House alum eventually perceived her ex-behavior fiancé as an “attack.” Styles, for one, has tried to keep out of the nasty custody battle.
“Harry has never sought out to Jason,” a second source told Us in August, adding that the singer “doesn’t believe it’s his place to” step in. “Harry is overjoyed and in love with Olivia.” They make an incredible team.”
