Driver That Killed Nicki Minaj’s Father Sentenced to Year in Prison
After more than a year since Nicki Minaj’s father was killed in a hit-and-run, the responsible driver has been sentenced to jail time.
Robert Maraj died at the age of 64 in a hit-and-run back in February 2021. He had been walking on Long Island when he was hit by the car. The driver in this vehicular crime, Charles Polevich, has finally been sentenced to time behind bars.
As per TMZ, the court ordered him to serve one year in jail and pay a fine of $5,000 on Wednesday after pleading guilty to two felony charges.
These two charges were, leaving the scene of the accident without reporting, and tampering with physical evidence.
At the time of the incident, cops said that the driver fled the scene and tried to hide the car in a detached garage at his place. Meanwhile, Robert Maraj was rushed to a hospital in a critical state. He later died from his injuries.
Nicki eventually opened up about the tragedy on her website saying;
“I can say it has been the most devastating loss of my life.”
Aside from the jail time and the fine, the driver’s license will be suspended for 6 months. Charles Polevich was facing up to 7 years imprisonment for the death of Nicki Minaj’s father. However, Judge Howard Sturim followed through with a commitment to not sentence him to more than one year in jail.
